Take yourself out.

On some days, you just need to stop, shut everything out and spend some time with yourself.
Do something for yourself today and only with yourself. 💁

☕️ Go to your favourite cafe and have that coffee. Just you (and maybe a book if you like).
🌄 Drive away to a quiet spot on a tiny peak somewhere and enjoy the sunset.
🎨 Spend the day surrounding yourself with colours and a blank canvas and see what you turn it into.
🐶 Go buy some treats and spend some time at a dog shelter.

Just do something. Anything.
Where you get to either think about yourself or the movement of the clouds or simply stare at your feet.
Don’t post about it or click pictures or tell anyone. Just do it and remember that feeling.

Those few moments of really letting yourself go and not thinking about anything or anyone else around you, will liberate you. 🌈

Fuck their validation.

As someone who struggled with anxiety, I cared far too much about what other people thought about me. I won’t go into much detail, but I will say this…

Fuck them.
Fuck their opinions. Fuck their validation. Fuck it so hard that it swings around and kicks your ass further toward the life you want.

Caring about what others think about you, or your work, is the single greatest deterrent from living the life you want.

It is a lifelong battle, but start it now, so you don’t wake up at 50 in a house in the suburbs, confused how you got there, realizing that someone else’s opinion dictated your every decision.

The thing about travel…

“At the end of hours of train-dreaming, we may feel we have been returned to ourselves — that is, brought back into contact with emotions and ideas of importance to us. It is not necessarily at home that we best encounter our true selves. The furniture insists that we cannot change because it does not; the domestice setting keeps us tethered to the person we are in ordinary life, but who may not be who we essentially are.”

— Alain de Botton, “The Art of Travel.”

Stumbled upon this genius sign-board at a cafe in Ubud, Bali.

I believe everyone has their own unique reason to travel. Be it trying new cuisines, being in a different environment, showcasing their experiences to friends back home, experiencing a new culture, feeling a sense of freedom or simply escaping from the life we’ve been manufactured into.

Whatever your reason may be, make it a point to visit one place you’ve never been to before, at least once a year.

“I can’t think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Suddenly you are five years old again. You can’t read anything, you have only the most rudimentary sense of how things work, you can’t even reliably cross a street without endangering your life. Your whole existence becomes a series of interesting guesses.”

— Bill Bryson, “Neither Here Nor There: Travels in Europe.”

P.S. If you’re in your 20s and extremely lucky to have survived, you’ve got about 30-50 vacations to look forward to! Or simply make each one count because you never know when its your last 👀 (That’s a dark thought. I’m sorry?)

Your playing small does not serve the world

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Be fearless. Stand up for the choices you make. Take chances and seize opportunities. You’ll never know how much the world can benefit out of what you achieve, unless you try.
